Terms of Service
These Terms of Service govern your use of the Open Radio Linking Project (“ORLP”) website at orlp.io and the ORLP linking network. By registering a node, connecting to the network, or otherwise using these services, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the services.
1. Eligibility
A valid, current amateur radio licence issued by your national authority is required to operate a node that transmits RF over the air. You are responsible for ensuring your licence class authorises the frequencies, power levels, and modes you use. Reflector-only participation (internet audio routing with no RF transmission) does not require a licence.
ORLP may verify licence status against public records (e.g. the FCC ULS or equivalent). Nodes whose licence cannot be verified as active may be restricted to reflector-only mode.
2. Acceptable use
When using the network you agree that you will not:
- Carry commercial traffic, or use the network for pecuniary interest.
- Encrypt or encode the content of communications to obscure their meaning (per FCC Part 97 and equivalent regulations in your jurisdiction).
- Cause harmful or willful interference to other operators, repeaters, or networks.
- Transmit unlawful, harassing, or grossly offensive content, or music or broadcast material.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to nodes, reflectors, or ORLP infrastructure.
3. Node operator responsibilities
As a node operator you are solely responsible for the lawful operation of your station. You agree to comply with all regulations applicable to you, to keep your node registration information (callsign, location, frequency, contact details) current and accurate, to secure your node’s management interface, and to respond promptly to reports of misuse or interference involving your node. You remain the control operator of your station at all times.
4. AGPL v3 obligations
The ORLP software is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3. If you modify the software and make it available to users over a network, you must make the corresponding source code available to those users under the same licence. See the License page for details.
5. Disclaimer of warranty
The website and network are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. ORLP does not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, and is not responsible for QRM, interference, propagation conditions, third-party network outages (including AllStar or EchoLink), or loss of communications.
6. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ORLP and its contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, use, or goodwill, arising from your use of the services. ORLP is a volunteer, non-commercial project provided free of charge.
7. Suspension & termination
ORLP may suspend, restrict, or revoke a node’s access to the network for violations of these terms, for unverifiable licence status, or to protect the integrity and safety of the network. Revoked nodes are rejected on every daemon check-in regardless of prior approval.
8. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Washington for any dispute arising from these terms.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced with at least 30 days’ notice via the Groups.io community and a banner on this site. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
