Yaesu DR-1X

The original DR-1X (Fusion I) is a very common, flexible repeater for analog ORLP linking. Internally it is two FTM-400-class transceivers; for proper external control you add a "breakout" so COS, PTT, RX audio, and TX audio are separated rather than internally bridged. Breakout mod: Out of the box the receiver and transmitter pass audio and COS/PTT on a single internal cable. Add a pigtail to a DE-9 (or DB-25) connector exposing COS (from RX), PTT (to TX), RX audio, and TX audio so an external controller/interface can sit in series. Doug Crompton's well-known instructions cover this. Analog-only: The DR-1X cannot mix analog audio while in a digital mode — fix it in FM (analog) both in and out. This keeps RF digital audio off ORLP, which is what you want. CTCSS: Use ORLP's usbradio mode to decode and encode CTCSS, or inject sub-audible tone on the external-controller port. Versions: Only the original DR-1X is suitable for this modification — the DR-1XFR and DR-2X have firmware changes that block it.
